- Less than a week after the departure of deputy chief executive Kelvin MacKenzie from Mirror Group viewers are being asked to decide the future of his News Bunny creation.

The man in the rabbit suit, who gives the thumbs up and thumbs down during all LiveTV news bulletins, was one of several MacKenzie innovations during his stint at Mirror Group. Others include Topless Darts and Lunch Box Volley Ball.

Mirror Group said the move was in honour of the News Bunny creator, who left earlier this week to head up a consortium planning to seize control of national radio station Talk Radio.

LiveTV will ask viewers to take part in a special yes/no phone line vote on whether news bunny should be pensioned off or allowed to stay in his famous TV hutch.

News Bunny appeared on LiveTV yesterday wearing a black armband and holding his head in his hands, visibly affected by the departure of MacKenzie.

A spokesman for LiveTV said: "He's right off his carrots. We've told him not to despair, maybe the country will be hopping up and down to keep him!"
