The internet recruitment company, StepStone, has appointed the

online media agency, Quantum New Media Services, as its online planning

and buying agency.

Quantum, which is a 50/50 joint venture between Booth Locket Makin and

Paul Longhurst, the former media director of Ammirati Puris Lintas, won

the business without a pitch on the strength of BLM’s existing offline

relationship with StepStone. The creative business is handled by

Arcom.

StepStone is poised to spend more than pounds 1 million in the UK on

internet advertising, partnerships and links. The website, which is

located at stepstone.co.uk, was originally known as Jobshop and is

already one of Europe’s largest online recruitment companies.

Quantum will be responsible for planning and buying all online campaigns

and ensuring that there is a seamless integration with the offline

buying.

Paul Longhurst, managing director of Quantum, said: ’There is no doubt

that StepStone has by far the biggest commitment to expenditure and will

dominate the online recruitment market. The product and service

outsmarts the competition. This win is also further proof that our

investment in software systems such as RADAR and our belief that

advertising on the worldwide web should be totally accountable is

already paying dividends.’

With operations in the UK, Germany, Norway, Sweden and Denmark,

StepStone has expanded rapidly since it was founded in Norway in 1994

through a mixture of acquisition and organic growth. The company had a

turnover of dollars 5.4 million in 1998 and is predicting a 300 per cent

increase for 1999.
