Ammirati Puris Lintas has raided the media independent world for its new

European media director and hired Graeme Hutton from CIA Medianetwork.

Hutton, currently the European development director at CIA, will join

the agency in a few months to take control of APL’s strategic media

operations across Europe.

Hutton will be based in London at APL’s UK headquarters, and will

provide a co-ordinating link between each local media director around

Europe. He will be responsible for streamlining the agency’s media

approach around Europe and developing best-practices to be adopted in

each country.

APL offices have an in-house media function to provide media input into

the creative process. Strategic media planning is combined with a degree

of media buying, but the bulk of the agency’s buying is handled by APL’s

media dependant, Initiative Media.

Hutton will be one of a number of regional media directors at APL around

the world, reporting to a soon-to-be-appointed worldwide strategic

planning director.

The appointment follows a restructuring of APL’s worldwide media

operations, including Initiative Media, announced last week (Campaign,

29 March).

APL has created a new worldwide media board, designed to ‘ensure high

calibre media planning throughout the world’. The overhaul will leave a

vacancy for a chairman of Initiative Media Europe, following the

promotion of Marie-Jose Forissier to chairman of Initiative Media


Michael Lotito, the chief media officer at APL in New York and the co-

chairman with Forissier of the worldwide media board, said Hutton was

the person he had been looking for.

Lotito said that Hutton’s strong research background meant that he had

‘exactly the right kind of intellectual strength we need in that area’.

Lotito added that Hutton was also a great diplomat, and had an excellent

reputation as a media operator.

‘Graeme’s an amazingly talented guy. We spoke to all the senior people

in the UK market, but Graeme rose to the top of the pile straight away,’

Lotito said.
