NEWS: Colebrook promoted to new JWT global position

Miles Colebrook, president and chief executive of J. Walter Thompson Europe for the past seven years, has been promoted to the new position of international group president of JWT Worldwide.

Miles Colebrook, president and chief executive of J. Walter Thompson

Europe for the past seven years, has been promoted to the new position

of international group president of JWT Worldwide.

In his new role, Colebrook, 48, takes overall responsibility for Europe,

Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific. The rest of the world, which

comprises North America and Latin America, will be run by Peter

Schweitzer, currently JWT president, based in Detroit. The two

promotions mark the first significant management change made by Chris

Jones since he was appointed chief executive officer designate last

year.

In the past, JWT has split the world into four regions: Asia Pacific,

Europe, North America and Latin America, each run by a regional

director. Regional directors for the four regions will now report either

to Colebrook or Schweitzer.

Colebrook’s old position will be filled by Michael Madel, currently

chairman and chief executive officer of JWT Germany. Madel will be based

in the London headquarters of JWT Europe three days a week. It is the

first time a Continental European has held the role. Alan Fairnington

will continue in his role as president of JWT Asia Pacific, reporting to

Colebrook.

Colebrook said: ‘I am extremely lucky to have such able people as

Michael Madel and Alan Fairnington to work with me in the continued

development of these two successful regions, which are so vitally

important to JWT’s future and our clients.’

Colebrook joined JWT London in 1966 as a media buyer, switching to

account executive in 1970. In 1986 he became managing director of JWT

London. In 1989 he moved to become chief executive of JWT Europe.
