Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO was a multiple winner at the Creative Circle

awards this year, with its ‘twister’ commercial for Volvo picking up the

platinum award, as well as winning two golds and three silvers across a

wide range of categories.

The ‘twister’ copywriter, Tom Carty, and his art director, Walter

Campbell, also picked up a special award conferred by the Creative

Circle’s president, Dave Waters.

Waters, joint creative director of Duckworth Finn Grubb Waters, said the

pair deserved a special accolade for ‘consistently proving it is still

possible to put across a very powerful, disciplined advertising message

in a seemingly wild and undisciplined way’.

He also said the judges were tough this year, the second in which all

members had to be under 35. Only six golds were awarded, compared with

nine in 1995, and 17 categories did not even merit a silver.

The prizes were announced on Monday night. Gold winners included WCRS,

for its work on BMW; Leagas Delaney for Adidas; Rainey Kelley Campbell

Roalfe with ‘Miller Time’; and Saatchi and Saatchi for Club 18-30.

A full list of winners is published as an insert in this week’s

Campaign.
