The Radio Advertising Bureau has taken the unusual step of appointing

McCann-Erickson to a marketing support role.

The agency’s main function will be to offer marketing support on

projects not handled in-house as well as advising on the RaB’s

marketing.

McCanns will work directly with the Rab’s managing director, Douglas

McArthur, and its press officer, Lesley Tapper.

The move has been prompted by the fact that the Rab’s head of

communications, David Longman, is now a marketing director at the

agency. In his four years at the Rab, he was widely credited with

helping to raise the profile of commercial radio.

David Warden, chairman and chief executive of McCanns, said: ‘The Rab

has revolutionised media marketing over the past four years and now all

other media seem to be talking about ‘doing a Rab’. Commercial radio

offers McCanns an energetic ‘brand’ to contribute to the marketing

campaign.’
