The Media Centre has wrapped up the entire pounds 30 million-plus

Scottish Cour-age portfolio by landing the media for all pounds 6

million worth of Scottish and Newcastle brands.

The latest appointment covers media planning and buying across major

brands such as Becks, Newcastle Brown Ale and McEwan’s Lager - all of

which are currently handled by the CDP Media Company. Burkitt Edwards

Martin will lose the Coors media account.

The Media Centre won all the Courage business immediately after the

acquisition of Courage by Scottish and Newcastle in August this year,

following a final pitch against IDK Media. The brands include Fosters,

John Smith’s, Courage, and Kronenbourg 1664.

John Nicolson, the marketing director of Scottish Courage, said: ‘We

have carried out a comprehensive strategic review of our requirements

and I am confident that the Media Centre’s understanding of the issues

facing the beer market at present will help them make a valuable

contribution to the company.’

Jim Marshall, managing director of the Media Centre, commented: ‘We are

delighted that such a media-literate company has chosen to put its

confidence in us and we look forward to developing this mutually

rewarding partnership.’

It is not known whether the media appointment will affect the creative

agencies.

The combined Scottish Courage operation comprises some 50 brands, and

there is speculation that Nicolson may rationalise its eight-strong

creative roster and hive off some of the less-profitable brands next

year.

1 Why creative people have lost their way

What better way to kick off Campaign's relaunch than with another think piece on the current failings of our industry, written by an embittered, pretentious creative who misses "the way things used to be"...
