Talk Radio has unveiled a number of changes designed to strengthen its
management team and further improve its offering to clients.
David Atkey has joined as the operations director from Virgin Radio,
where he was promotions manager. His broad-ranging brief embraces
marketing and office support. He will report directly to Travis Baxter,
managing director of both CLT Radio UK, Talk’s new owners, and Talk
Atkey’s appointment is designed to free the sales director, David Lees,
and the programme director, Jerry Thomas, to concentrate on their core
areas of overseeing revenue generation and programming.
At the same time, Talk Radio’s 20-strong sales team is moving from its
offices in London’s Oxford Street to Atlantic 252’s offices around the
corner in Newman Street.
However, Baxter has denied speculation that the two sales teams are to
merge. ‘This was a purely logistical move - there is just no room here
and most of Newman Street is vacant. It’s a natural process to have
people working on the same business in the same building.’

The changes are the first big developments seen at the national speech-
based station since it was bought by the CLT Group last November.
Further changes are planned within the next few months.
Baxter said: ‘There had been an inadequate management resource at Talk.
We’re giving the company a sensible structure which it never really had.
We hope to strengthen the team even more. This is the first stage of
giving the business strength and depth.’
