Conde Nast, has quit suddenly.

Stockting, who was previously the publisher at Elle, joined the company

two years ago in a newly created role. Her original brief was to

attract new business and develop group ad deals. The appointment was

seen at the time as a break with Conde Nast’s tradition of brand


In reality, Stockting’s role appears to have centred primarily on new


‘Two years in, I did not feel that the role had developed like those

which have developed at other magazine houses, notably the National

Magazine Company. I felt I would be stifled by staying at Conde Nast,

and needed to look outside,’ Stockting said.

Nicholas Coleridge, managing director at Conde Nast, said: ‘She did a

terrific job, but she felt like a change. She’d been handling new

business for us, and a couple of other projects. We both felt it was

time for her to move on.

‘We will be looking for a replacement in the new year. I can’t say yet

whether it will be a direct replacement, but we want someone to fulfil

that sort of role,’ Coleridge explained.
