Thistle Hotels has kicked off a review of its advertising account as it

gears up for a stock-market flotation later this year. The task will

include corporate and flotation advertising with budgets tipped to reach

pounds 5 million.

The company, which operates almost 100 Thistle and Mount Charlotte

hotels across the UK, is holding pitches this Friday between WCRS, J.

Walter Thompson and Saatchi and Saatchi. A decision is expected within

the next two weeks.

Sue Whitehead, Thistle’s marketing director, said: ‘We were going to run

a brand-building campaign at the end of this year. But now, because of

the possible flotation in the autumn, we can’t look at the brand in

isolation. We have therefore given the agencies a reasonably open

brief.’

Whitehead said WCRS, JWT and Saatchis were chosen because of their

experience of flotation campaigns.

Thistle’s agency of record, the Leith Agency, will be considered in the

review, although it will not formally pitch. Whitehead explained: ‘The

Leith still has proposals on the table from work prepared two years

ago.’

A fifth agency, HDM Link, which has created some advertising for Thistle

in the US, will also be considered.
