NTL backs TNT’s basketball

Cable company NTL is to sponsor coverage of the National Basketball

Association (NBA) championships on TNT.



The entertainment channel will broadcast 19 weekly season games until

April, followed by six to eight playoffs throughout the second

round.



This will be accompanied by the broadcast of two new programmes on TNT,

the NBA Playoff Preview Special and NBA Draft, which reports on the 13

teams that don’t play in the playoffs.



Additionally, TNT will broadcast Inside the NBA, a weekly documentary

series which goes behind the scenes of the sport, to air each Saturday

until the end of June 2000. The basketball season runs from November

until April next year.



Steven Wagner, head of media and marketing at NTL said: ’This deal is

another example of NTL’s commitment to bring more sports content to UK

viewers. TNT is a great channel for NBA coverage and we’ll be working

together to build a fan base for this exciting sport.’



TNT, part of the Turner Broadcasting portfolio of channels, is a general

entertainment channel providing a wide range of programmes including

wrestling, basketball, films and music.
