O&M creative team takes August Aerial with Ford Fusion ad

The Ogilvy & Mather team Dale Winton and Hamish Pinnell have won the August Aerial Award for best radio commercial.

The O&M duo won with their "bin men" spot for Ford Fusion. They beat off competition from the Clemmow Hornby Inge team Stuart Button and Greg Mutton to win the Aerial Award, held in association with Campaign.

"Bin men" features a voiceover from a surly sounding bin man who apologises for not letting a Ford Fusion pass his rubbish truck earlier that day.

The spot ends with the line: "The small car that commands respect."

Judges Tony Burke and Milo Campbell of cdp-travissully judged the award and put the "bin men" spot ahead of Button and Mutton's "Germany" commercial for Heineken 5%. They said: "The Ford Fusion ads established a clear idea early on, were well-cast and well-executed and it's nice to see Ford buying some half-decent creative, something they have appeared reluctant to do over the past couple of years. Heineken was a worthy runner-up as it takes the piss out of Germans."
