OK! magazine, Northern & Shell’s rival to the celebrity title,

Hello!, has taken on its first ad agency, appointing Lansdown Conquest

for a pounds 5 million advertising campaign this autumn.

The campaign, due to break in September, is designed to persuade more

25- to 34-year-old ABC1 women to buy the magazine, which has recently

embarked on a spending spree to improve its output.

’We’ve invested huge amounts in the editorial, especially on news

pictures and the acquisition of exclusives, and we feel the time is

right to tell people about it,’ Stan Myerson, a director of Northern &

Shell, explained.

He added that the new campaign, which will also appear on radio and

posters, will be product-based and will reflect particular articles

appearing in OK!. Its aim, Myerson said, is to lift circulation through

the 200,000 mark.
