Omnicom has fired the starting gun on a search for a UK media controller to restructure its operations as it continues its pursuit of the media company, Manning Gottlieb Media.

controller to restructure its operations as it continues its pursuit of

the media company, Manning Gottlieb Media.



Omnicom is hoping to tie up a deal with MGM and create an umbrella

operation spanning BMP Optimum, MGM and, possibly, New PHD, the media

company in which Omnicom has a 29 per cent stake through New PHD’s

parent, the Abbott Mead Vickers group (Campaign, 4 July).



A UK media chief is being sought to act as an independent figurehead for

the new- look line-up. A European head may also be hired.



Bruce Crawford, Omnicom’s chairman, was in London earlier this week and

is understood to be keen to beef up Omnicom’s media presence in the face

of the proposed merger of WPP’s media operations, J. Walter Thompson and

Ogilvy & Mather’s the Network.



Omnicom has a shell UK media headquarters for Optimum Media Direction,

the DDB/BBDO European joint media venture, under the leadership of Tim

Cox. However, fresh investment is now being planned.
