- ONdigital, the UK digital terrestrial broadcaster, is to offer internet access to all subscribers as part of its interactive plans for the millennium.
The move distinguishes it from the BSkyB and BT-backed digital satellite rival, Open, which does not offer access to the world wide web.
Stuart Prebble ONdigital chief executive, said: "ONdigital will offer a wide range of interactive services to its subscribers. Unlike satellite, we have also decided to include the opportunity of access to the internet to our customers through their televisions. Internet access was a key element of culture secretary Chris Smith's recent announcement on analogue switch over."
He added: "Any subscriber will be able to sit in the comfort of their own home and surf the net through their TV screen. They won't need a computer - their TV and ONdigital box will do it all for them."
