to be a great salesman from an early age

’I’ve always been attracted to sales and began almost as soon as I

learned the value of money. I was always on at my dad to give me more

pocket money, but he said I had to earn it. I used to sell pens, rubbers

and football stickers to my neighbours and to my mates at school.

’When I was ten, my home backed onto a golf course. One day, when I was

camping on the course, I began collecting golf balls. I soon had

hundreds.

’My dad suggested that to make some pocket money I should put an ad in

the local paper. The demand was massive - so massive, in fact, that I

had to keep returning to the golf course to collect more balls! If I was

desperate, though, I would sell the balls to golfers there and then. I

just had to make sure they didn’t already belong to them.’
