Optimedia has hired Maryam Bazargan as its first head of

interactive planning.

Bazargan was previously head of planning at Carat Interactive and was in

line to become a director of the agency before receiving the offer from

Optimedia.

She would have been one of four middle managers reporting jointly to

Robert Horler and Richard Wheaton.

Before she joined Carat, Bazargan was employed by Gemstar, where she

worked on the company’s Electronic Programme Guide.

At Optimedia she will focus on building the agency’s internet,

e-commerce and interactive TV expertise.

The agency has 13 dotcom clients including Jungle, e-garden and the two

portals from Associated New Media: This is London and This is Money.

Bazargan will be the new- media point of contact for the entire agency,

advising planners and buyers on strategy for both their online and

offline accounts.

Optimedia’s non-internet clients include Allied Domecq spirits,

Hewlett-Packard, British Airways and Nestle UK.

Simon Mathews, managing director of Optimedia, said: ’Maryam is a vital

part of our future plans for new media. We want to develop an integrated

model and she will act as a consultant, offering an added-value service

for all our clients.

Wheaton said he was ’vigorously interviewing’ for Bazargan’s

replacement, and said he hoped to appoint a director in the next two

weeks.
