Jaspar Shelbourne, creative director of J. Walter Thompson, has
hired Paul Burke, a senior writer at BMP DDB, as a creative group
Burke’s appointment completes the senior hirings in JWT’s creative
department instigated by Shelbourne last month when he made Phil
Dearman, a senior creative at Lowe Howard-Spink, deputy creative
director (Campaign, 23 January).
Burke, 35, who will join JWT in mid-March, was responsible for many
memorable campaigns at BMP.
Recent work included the final Barclaycard commercial starring Rowan
Atkinson, the British Gas commercials starring Mrs Merton and the Meat
and Livestock Commission’s ’stand by your man’.
Shelbourne said: ’Paul likes to work on his own. He’s a fantastic writer
and a pretty excellent art director. But he’ll be surrounded by art
directors if he wants more help.’
Stephen Carter, the chief executive of JWT, has added to the recruits by
hiring Charlie Rudd, a director in charge at TBWA Simons Palmer.
Carter said: ’Charlie has got tons of energy, a good advertising brain
and is committed to delivering great work.’
Rudd joined Simons Palmer in 1992 to work on the BT account. He also
handled other briefs, including Fuji and the British Heart
He was appointed as director in charge in 1997.
