Jaspar Shelbourne, creative director of J. Walter Thompson, has hired Paul Burke, a senior writer at BMP DDB, as a creative group head.

Jaspar Shelbourne, creative director of J. Walter Thompson, has

hired Paul Burke, a senior writer at BMP DDB, as a creative group

head.

Burke’s appointment completes the senior hirings in JWT’s creative

department instigated by Shelbourne last month when he made Phil

Dearman, a senior creative at Lowe Howard-Spink, deputy creative

director (Campaign, 23 January).

Burke, 35, who will join JWT in mid-March, was responsible for many

memorable campaigns at BMP.

Recent work included the final Barclaycard commercial starring Rowan

Atkinson, the British Gas commercials starring Mrs Merton and the Meat

and Livestock Commission’s ’stand by your man’.

Shelbourne said: ’Paul likes to work on his own. He’s a fantastic writer

and a pretty excellent art director. But he’ll be surrounded by art

directors if he wants more help.’

Stephen Carter, the chief executive of JWT, has added to the recruits by

hiring Charlie Rudd, a director in charge at TBWA Simons Palmer.

Carter said: ’Charlie has got tons of energy, a good advertising brain

and is committed to delivering great work.’

Rudd joined Simons Palmer in 1992 to work on the BT account. He also

handled other briefs, including Fuji and the British Heart

Foundation.

He was appointed as director in charge in 1997.

1 Why creative people have lost their way

What better way to kick off the inaugural issue of Campaign's monthly print offering than with another think piece on the current failings of our industry, written by an embittered, pretentious creative who misses "the way things used to be"...
