The paper has been a year in planning and is the first national newspaper to launch in Germany for more than twenty years. The last was a very different kind of paper: tageszeitung, a Berlin-based leftwing daily.
The joint venture marks the first time the Financial Times' name has appeared on a newspaper in a language other than English.
The two papers will be written and edited by separate editorial teams, but will work together on reporting stories and exploring ideas.
The paper launches with a fully integrated online business news and data service and journalists will write for both print and for the internet. The website is located at ftd.de.
