Peter Fincham mooted as alternative to Tony Ball for ITV top job

LONDON - Peter Fincham, ITV's director of television, could be a potential candidate for the chief executive job as the broadcaster enters a deadlock over Tony Ball's pay demands.

Ball has been negotiating to secure a five-year cash and shares bonus plan that could award him up to £30 million if he attains performance targets.

The board is divided about how much Ball should receive in incentives as the bonus scheme, coming on top of a £1 million salary, would draw censure from unions and corporate governance groups.

According to a newspaper report, Fincham’s name is being circulated at ITV’s headquarters in South Bank as an alternative should ITV fail to reach an agreement in pay negotiations with Ball.

It is understood Fincham would not stay at ITV if Ball were appointed and he is also the favourite to replace Andy Duncan in the top job at Channel 4.
