Pick & Turkey league (28 Jan 2011)

Which agencies are creating work worthy to be picked by Campaign's team of avid ad watchers and which are coming out looking like a turkey?

Ian Darby was haunted by Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO’s latest Aviva spot featuring Paul Whitehouse: "The Ghost dead bloke in the room trick has rarely been executed so effectively and this ad pulls off the trick of being moving rather than mawkish. Much of that is down to Whitehouse but the script also packs in reasons to invest in life insurance and works incredibly hard for the brand." The ad was written by Dave Buchanan, art directed by Mike Hannett, and directed by Declan Lowney at HSI.

Katherine Levy thinks Ogilvy & Mather’s new ad for Dove’s "no white marks" invisible deodorant pongs: "What’s worse than a cheesy American ‘testimonials’ ad where preppy women with unnaturally white teeth swear to the benefits of using a product? A badly dubbed cheesy American ad of the same calibre. This Dove spot has given its actors a strange litany of regional British accents that aren’t quite in sync with their lips and topped it with shots of them sniffing their pits. Whiffy."
