Based in the London office, Pinnington will take responsibility for the business operations of the global network.
The new role will see him working closely with Jean-Marc Antoni, the Paris-based Euro RSCG chief financial officer, and David Jones, the Euro RSCG Worldwide chief executive.
Pinnington's UK role will not be filled, but will be superseded by the new post of UK group chairman. The chief executives in the UK group, including those at Euro RSCG London, EHS Brann and Biss Lancaster PR, will report to whoever is handed the group chairman role.
Jones said: "Chris has consistently over-delivered for us during his distinguished career at Euro. He understands the agency and its entrepreneurial culture and has our core values in his DNA. As I spend more time on our clients and senior talent, Chris will play a vital role in running the engine room of the global agency."
Pinnington said: "The new management team has added energy and vitality. I've known David for many years and relish partnering with him, focusing on the business and operations of the company."
Pinnington joined Havas in 1983 and has worked in a variety of positions within the group. His first senior management position was as the chief executive of Euro RSCG in Sydney in 1987. He returned to the UK in 1990 as the chief executive of Euro RSCG Wnek Gosper and was promoted to run the UK group in 2002.
Last month, Euro RSCG London named Mark Cadman and Russ Lidstone as the agency's chief executive and chief strategic officer respectively. Gerry Moira will continue as Euro RSCG's executive creative director.
