Pitch Update

Agencies are tripping over themselves to get on the longlist to pitch for Burger King's £12 million UK advertising account.

Apparently, the RFI is identical to that for the separate global pitch, which is being run out of the US and has a big focus on numbers and legalities. The UK pitch is being run by Duncan Osborne, who is in the role of UK marketing director on an interim basis. A permanent marketing director could be in place when the actual pitch takes place, which is likely to be the end of May.

The tissue meetings for the Carling advertising pitch took place this week, with Fallon, Rainey Kelly Campbell Roalfe/Y&R, McCann London and VCCP all going in to visit the brewer. Pitches are expected to take place in a fortnight.

The ad pitch for Swinton seems to have gone on forever and, with the process going to yet another round of meetings, Beta is understood to have pulled out of the running, leaving Beattie McGuinness Bungay and Isobel to battle it out.

In the media agency world, the insurance provider Hiscox has told UM London, Vizeum and MPG Media Contacts that they have been shortlisted for the £3 million media account. Presentations are at the end of May.

Initiative, Maxus, Arena Media, the7stars and MCHI are all understood to have stage one meetings with the Nestle-owned dieting brand Jenny Craig this week. The client is understood to want to whittle down the shortlist to two by the end of the week.

MEC has pulled out of the BAA media pitch, leaving the incumbent, Carat, and OMD still in the frame.
