Pitch update

The courier company DHL, which is following its rival UPS in reviewing its ad account, has drawn up a shortlist of agencies to compete for the global business.

The review, which was called last month after Ogilvy Advertising resigned the business to pitch for UPS, is being handled by the AAR Germany. It will involve M&C Saatchi in a contest against 180 Amsterdam, Publicis Deutschland and DDB Germany.

The pitches for Epson's pan-European advertising account took place this week. McCann Erickson, Albion, CMW and Iris are all vying for the business, which is thought to have a spend of around £10 million. DDB London, the incumbent for the past five years, declined to repitch.

Agencies on the global Danone media pitch have been told they will be put out of their misery on 15 October when the result is scheduled to be announced. However, agencies in local markets, such as Havas' MPG and WPP's Mediaedge:cia, which are battling it out for the £25 million UK business, are still wondering whether Danone will appoint one global network or go with the decisions of its local market pitches.

Carlsberg has confirmed details of its international media review, indicating that it will cover 22 markets in Europe and Asia including the UK, Germany, France, Russia, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore. The brewing giant is drawing up a shortlist for the pitch, with OMD Europe, the incumbent, expected to take part. An appointment is due in November.

The Mars/Wrigley UK media consolidation progressed this week with presentations for Mars from MediaCom, OMD UK and the incumbent, ZenithOptimedia. Presentations for the Wrigley part of the business take place next week.

1 Why creative people have lost their way

What better way to kick off the inaugural issue of Campaign's monthly print offering than with another think piece on the current failings of our industry, written by an embittered, pretentious creative who misses "the way things used to be"...
