Pizza Express to target air travellers and conferences

Pizza Express has announced pre-tax profits up by almost a third to £19.5m and revealed its plans to targeted air travellers and exhibition and conference visitors.

LONDON (Brand Republic) - Pizza Express has announced pre-tax profits up by almost a third to £19.5m and revealed its plans to targeted air travellers and exhibition and conference visitors.

The firm, which has 256 restaurants nationwide, is opening 30 new outlets for the fifth year running. It has “high expectations” for restaurants opening in Earl’s Court and Olympia exhibition centres and Heathrow airport.

It is also expanding from its high-street base into shopping centres and multiplex cinemas. Recently opened outlets in towns such as Cirencester, Gosforth and Northampton reflect its shift away from roots in the south-east of England, it said.

The pizza chain’s rapid expansion has been aided by its “strong brand”, which has enabled it to receive cut-price letting terms.

The UK results compare favourably with overseas franchises in countries such as Hungary, Poland and the Czech Republic, where the firm has seen only “modest profit”. Despite this, it plans to expand into Greece, Qatar and Saudi Arabia.
