Thomas Geens and Simon Welsh have been selected as the British

creative team to enter the Cannes Advertising Festival’s annual Young

Creatives competition.

Geens and Welsh, who are now on placement at Draft Worldwide, were

chosen from a shortlist of four teams, drawn up from an initial 35

entries to the competition run through D&AD and Pearl and Dean. To be

eligible for entry this year, the members of each team had to be aged 27

or under, and to have been on either a D&AD creative workshop or on work

placement at an agency.

The teams were required to supply five campaigns, which were judged by

the advertising members of D&AD’s executive committee. Shortlisted teams

were then invited to D&AD to present their portfolios.

Geens and Welsh will be flown to Cannes by Pearl and Dean and given a

creative brief along with teams from around the world at the beginning

of the festival. Their efforts will be judged by the Cannes jury and the

winning team will receive an award at the official press and poster

ceremony at the festival.
