Planners Newton and Lovell move to Mother

Mother has poached Wieden %26 Kennedy New York's planning director, Iain Newton, to take a third strategist position at the agency with George Bryant and Andy Bellass.

Newton's decision to move back across the Atlantic ends a seven-year stint in New York where he was first drawn by an offer from Kirshenbaum & Partners. He left a planning position at GGT to join the agency in 1995 and worked his way up to co-planning director before moving to W&K in January 2000. Newton's time at W&K saw him work on campaigns for Nike, ESPN and Foot Locker.

"Iain is a player, Mother's Stef Calcraft said. "He has crammed so much into his career already that we had to lure him back to London. He and the Mother team will fly."

Newton started his career at ICL in 1989, moving to the agency side with MHA Direct and GGT Direct before venturing above the line with a move to GGT in 1993. While at GGT he worked on campaigns for Holsten Pils and the Nationwide Building Society.

"The only reason I've left New York for London is to work with Mother," Newton said. "What other reason could there be to live here?"

Mother further strengthened its planning department by looking closer to home to tempt Jessica Lovell from St Luke's. Lovell, who joined St Luke's from Wall to Wall TV in 1997, worked as a planner on BSkyB, Boots and COI Communications while at the agency. "In Jessica we were delighted to find a planner who is capable of thinking as creatively as she does strategically, Bryant said.
