D’Arcy has promoted John Poorta to planning director, replacing Max

Burt, who left the agency last year.

Poorta takes on the new role with immediate effect and will join the

agency’s executive committee. The committee includes Barry Cook,

managing director; Nick Hastings, creative director; Nigel Marsh, client

services director and Marjorie Pinsley, deputy managing director.

’I was in no rush to replace Max when he left the agency,’ Cook

said.

’We have a strong and talented department, which is borne out by our

recent success at the APG awards where we won the grand prix for

literacy, a gold for Maltesers and three other commendations.

’John’s brand of intelligence, common sense and clear thinking gels

perfectly with our vision.’

Poorta joined D’Arcy’s account management team 20 years ago and later

rose to become board director.

In 1990 he moved into the agency’s planning department, working on the

Budweiser and Umbro accounts.

Recently, he has worked on the agency’s Tetley business and several

Government initiatives, including the ’See the Person’ disability

campaign.

’The planners here are fantastic,’ Poorta said. ’My job is about helping

them to give their best so our clients continue to get great briefs and

consumer insights that lead to great creative ideas.’
