Post Office hopes for magic touch to target summer holidaymakers

The Post Office has drafted in a team of quick-handed magicians to front its new Travel Money ad campaign to show how easy it is for summer holidaygoers to change their money with them.

Created by MullenLowe London, the "Magic money" ad features The Magic Circle’s magician of the year, Brendan Rodrigues, who poses as a Post Office employee.

The magicians show that changing money at the Post Office is "so easy, it’s magic." Filmed live on 6 May, customers are visibly surprised when they see their cash being instantly changed in front of their eyes, as well as other crowd-pleasing tricks.

The ad comes ahead of the key summer period for the Post Office, which is promoting its online click and collect service, priority travel counters, and 0% commission on currency exchanges.

The integrated campaign will run online, on social, in press, and in branch from today through to early September. "Magic money" was created by Bruno Ribeiro and Luiz Filipin at MullenLowe, while it was directed and filmed by the IPG shop’s in-house production company, Make_.

Keith Gulliver, the marketing communications director at the Post Office, said: "Our summer campaign is key in helping us grow awareness of our Travel Money proposition.

"Consumers broadly know we offer competitive rates on a wide range of currencies, but don’t necessarily know how easy it is to buy their travel money from us. So we are combining brand and direct response spend across digital, press, social and in-branch to reposition the Post Office as the go-to place to buy travel money this summer.

"Whether you are buying currency from one of our 11,500+ branches, ordering online for home delivery, or using one of our Travel Money cards, Post Office has your travel money sorted".
