Starwood Hotels and Resorts has hired outdoor specialist Poster

Publicity International to plan, buy and manage a pan-European airport

advertising campaign.

PPI will work with OMD International on the account, which is worth just

over pounds 1 million. Ogilvy & Mather in Brussels previously held the

business.

Mike Segrue, managing director of PPI, said: ’We have the volume and the

evaluation and management systems that enable us to offer clients an

efficient service.’

Airport advertising makes up a relatively small part of global adspend -

around pounds 250 million, or roughly half the figure spent on UK

outdoor, according to Segrue. However, it achieved a 7.5 per cent

increase in 1998 and is thought to have grown further last year.

Segrue put this down to investment by contractors and more effective

research and evaluation methods.

Segrue added that he was ’delighted’ by the win and said it followed a

series of high-profile appointments. ’We had an excellent back half of

last year, and this is our third major win following appointments by

Philip Morris World Trade and UDV. Together these have increased our

global billings to more than pounds 31 million.’
