Publicis has bolstered its presence in the Middle East by buying a majority stake in Israeli internet agency Web Image.

Publicis refused to say how much it had paid for its 65% stake in the company, but confirmed it would be a "major asset" in its international marketing strategy.

Web Image specialises in online communications, branding and marketing and holds roster positions for clients such as Intel, Motorola and leading regional banks Massad and Otsar Hachayal.

Publicis chairman Maurice Levy said buying a company within the region's internet-savvy market was the best way to innovate new technology within the group and pitch them to its worldwide clients.

Web Image joins a number of other Publicis-owned agencies in Israel – Publicis Arieli, AB Data/SuperPush and EDO Logic. It joins the Publicis NetWorks arm, which already has operations in France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, the UK and the US.
