- Rainey Kelly Campbell Roalfe has hired an account director to work on its £30 million General Motors' business, just two weeks after the pan-European advertising launch of its Astra brand.

Mark Barnard comes from WCRS, where he was an associate board director working on the agency's international BMW business and, most recently, the stock market flotation of the holiday group, Thomson Travel.

"I am excited about working on General Motors but it is because of the buzz at Rainey Kelly that I am going there," Barnard said. He was at WCRS for six years, having started as a graduate trainee in 1992. Initially he will be working just on the Astra brand at Rainey Kelly, although he expects his responsibilities to broaden once the launch has been "bedded in."

BMW has not asked WCRS to pitch for its next £15 million global branding campaign, which will be handled by another of BMW's roster agencies. WCRS was eliminated from the pitch after making first round presentations.

Barnard first worked on the Thomson Holidays account, and later moved on to BMW's UK business before moving on to the international side.

Jim Kelly, a managing partner at Rainey Kelly, said: "We have spent a long time looking for the right person to join our General Motors account team. Mark has all the necessary local and international experience." Rainey Kelly won the Astra business last November from GM's Interpublic-owned roster agencies, Lowe Howard-Spink and McCann-Erickson.
