RBI’s TotalJobs takes on VNU by launching accountancy section

Reed Business Information’s TotalJobs.com is competing against

VNU’s Accountancy-Age.com by adding a dedicated accountancy section to

its recruitment site.

RBI has teamed up with AGB Professional Information, the commercial

division of the Chartered Institute of Accountants, to launch the

spin-off site.

As well as recruitment ads, it contains content from Accountancy

magazine, published by AGB, and RBI’s own title Pass, which is aimed at

accountancy students.

’This is a big market,’ commented associate publisher Dominic Knowlson.

’We estimate that accountancy job advertising alone generates revenues

of pounds 50 million a year, even before you factor in advertising from

recruitment agencies.’

Knowlson said there were already more than 1,000 vacancies on the

site.

A four-strong dedicated sales team led by TotalJobs sales director Mike

Convey has been recruited to sell space.

The venture is up against AccountancyAge.com, launched by VNU late last

year (Media Business, 8 November) and Accounting Web, launched in May

1997.

But Knowlson said the collaboration with AGB, as well as the strength of

Pass as a brand, gave RBI access to a ’a high-quality audience of both

qualified and partially qualified accountants’.

He said the TotalJobs advertising campaign would be expanded to focus on

the accountancy element of the site.

The campaign was created by CDP, which is also handling media.
