Diesel has appointed Paul Polle as its marketing manager. Polle takes

over from Jethro Marshall, who is leaving with no job to go to.

Previously, Polle was the merchandising and marketing co-ordinator at

Ralph Lauren, responsible for the launch of Polo jeans in Europe. Before

that he worked for Levi Strauss & Co as brand marketing manager.

DMB&B has scooped the claimed dollars 100 million global advertising

account for Ernst & Young. The account, which was previously divided

among ten agencies, was estimated at dollars 15 million or less when it

was first reviewed.



A new campaign for Ernst & Young is expected to be introduced in

October.



It is expected that the company’s current strapline, ’There isn’t a

business we can’t improve’, will be replaced. CampaignLive



BT is to revamp its marketing department by introducing ten new units to

replace the business and consumer divisions. In the new structure,

marketing will be centralised under Afshin Mohebbi, the former managing

director of BT’s business division. Marketing Week



Heinz has created two top-level European marketing posts in a bid to

globalise the Heinz brand. Eric Salamon, who was previously the general

manager for UK sauces, will become the general manager, corporate

marketing, European grocery. Salamon will handle a pounds 23 million

European advertising budget. Jane Edwards, who was previously the

general manager for corporate marketing in the UK, becomes general

Visa International and the Swatch Group are the last two official

sponsors of the FA Premier League’s 1998/99 football season. Seven

brands will pay pounds 2 million as second-tier sponsors behind Carling,

which retains lead sponsorship status with an investment of pounds 36

The computer manufacturer, Compaq, is seeking an agency to run a major

through-the-line campaign which is reported to be backed by a pounds 13

million budget. BMP DDB’s position as Compaq’s agency of record remains

unchanged, but the new brief is thought to include direct response ads,

Cosmopolitan magazine is joining forces with its National Magazine

Company stablemate Esquire to launch a dating service and is in

negotiations with advertisers, including Calvin Klein, over sponsorship.

Called Close Encounters, it will be the first to be run by a monthly

The furniture retailer, Kingsbury, has handed its pounds 2.5 million

media account to MediaCom. The agency won the business after a two-way

pitch against the incumbent, Banks Hoggins O’Shea, which has held the

business since November 1996. MediaCom will handle the planning and

The newly formed consumer magazine publishing division of Emap, Emap

Active, is looking for an agency. It is thought that a separate shop to

Emap’s roster agencies, Rainey Kelly Campbell Roalfe and Bartle Bogle

The former chief executive of BSkyB, Sam Chisholm, has joined the board

of the Premiership football club, Tottenham Hotspur. Chisholm, who

earned pounds 6.8 million in his last year with the satellite TV group,

will advise the club on media activities, fuelling speculation that the

club is about to launch a dedicated TV channel along similar lines to

Manchester United TV. General release.
