Sainsbury’s has moved its marketing director, Kevin McCarten, to the new

role of stores director. The move is part of a shake-up initiated by the

new chief executive, Sir Peter Davis. Sara Weller, who joined

Sainsbury’s from Abbey National earlier this week, takes over McCarten’s

The hosiery manufacturer, Aristoc, is reviewing its advertising account

Rover Group’s marketing and communications director, Nicki Darzinkas,

has quit the company without a job to go to. He joined Rover as a

Wal-Mart Stores has named Lee Scott as president and chief

executive.



He replaces David Glass, who was chief executive for 12 years and saw

sales grow by ten times. Scott’s brief is to expand the company outside

the US and overtake General Motors as the US’s largest company. The Wall

Hostile takeover bids for Marks & Spencer are gathering pace, with Tesco

now joining the fray. M&S’s weekly trading statement last week is

thought to have spurred on Terry Leahy, the chief executive of Tesco, to

make a strike. Marks & Spencer is also vulnerable to takeover because of

an internal power struggle over the appointment of a new chairman. The

Vivendi, the French media and utilities group, has raised its stake in

Scoot, the internet and phone directory service. Scoot has secured

pounds 100 million of new funding, which will take Vivendi’s stake to
