RIM announces plans for Scottish drive

Regional Independent Media is planning to use last week’s acquisition of Scottish County Press as the basis for a big push into Scotland.

Regional Independent Media is planning to use last week’s

acquisition of Scottish County Press as the basis for a big push into

Scotland.

Chief executive Chris Oakley has announced plans to form a new company,

RIM Scotland, and he intends to grow the Scottish business both

organically and through acquisitions.

Scottish County Press publishes five titles: The East Lothian News, The

Musselburgh News, The Advertiser, The Lothian Times and The Peebles

Times.

Steve Plews, chief executive of RIM subsidiary Ackrill Newspapers, based

in Harrogate, has been seconded to oversee the Scottish business.

Scottish County Press chairman Bruce Frew is to concentrate on the

contract printing business. RIM said it has no plans for redundancies at

the Scottish operation.

Mediaforce represents Scottish County Press nationally, although it is

likely that the business will transfer to RIM’s own national sales

house.

Plews said: ’We will be assessing the needs of the business over the

next few months and look forward to discussing the best way forward with

Mediaforce.’

RIM has recently been looking for acquisitions in a number of areas.

One is Manchester-based Newsco Publications, publisher of North West

Business Insider and Yorkshire Business Insider. The company also

publishes a number of other business titles, operates a website and

stages business events.

RIM assistant group managing director Steve Auckland has been appointed

chairman of the company.

RIM has also acquired Dirt Bike Rider and Classic Racer from

Lincolnshire-based Key Publishing. The titles are to be consolidated

with Trials & Motocross News, published by Lancaster & Morecambe

Newspapers.
