Ross and Martin to matchmake for the production industry

Sarah Martin and Judy Ross, formerly the heads of television at McCann-Erickson and Publicis respectively, have launched a matchmaking service for directors and production companies.

The Ross Martin Consultancy, which claims to be the first operation of its kind, intends to roll out its services globally over the next year.

The duo has been operating The Independent Television Department, a placement service for freelance production staff, since September 2003.

Commenting on the launch, Martin said: "The idea came from the number of times over the years we have been asked by directors for suggestions about which production company they should sign with, or vice versa."

Allaying production company fears that the consultancy will uproot their best talent, Ross adds: "All our directors are already looking to move so we will not be poaching. Brokering these partnerships can be a process that neither side enjoys: directors tend not to sell themselves well, while producers find it too time-consuming to search for directors of the right calibre."

Martin was the head of television at McCann for five years, following stints as a senior producer at Bates Dorland and McCann. Ross ran her own production company before running Publicis' TV department between 1994 and 2003.
