Savage joins R/GA as planning chief

R/GA, the New York-based digital agency, has hired Darren Savage as the first planning director for its London office, in a bid to build its UK planning arm.

Savage joins R/GA from AKQA, where he is the senior strategic planner. He will report to Anne Benvenuto, the executive vice-president for strategic services. Benvenuto said: "It's rare to find people like Darren who have strong planning skills and digital experience. This, in combination with his training in cognitive psychology, will help take our work to another level."

Savage worked as a research assistant in the cognitive neurology department at University College Hospital. Since joining the advertising industry, he has worked on clients including NatWest at TBWA and Audi at Bartle Bogle Hegarty. At AKQA, Savage worked on the D&AD yellow Pencil-winning "Results for Real Life" campaign for Yell.com.

R/GA won gold for its Nike+ work in the Campaign Digital awards last month. It also won an award for its work for US telecoms company Verizon.
