Shortlist Media names Hearst's Ella Dolphin as CEO

Ella Dolphin, the group commercial director at Hearst UK, has been appointed as the chief executive of Shortlist Media, the publisher of ShortList and Stylist.

She replaces Mike Soutar, who will become chairman of Shortlist Media later this year after leading the business alongside co-founder Tim Ewington since the company’s launch in 2007. 

Dolphin was promoted from group publishing director to group commercial director in 2014 under Hearst’s then new CEO Anna Jones. She was responsible for developing commercial revenues across print and digital, as well as developing new revenue streams across events, commercial content generation, contract publishing and licensing.

As CEO of Shortlist Media, Dolphin has been tasked with driving growth and diversification of the company’s print and digital brands, which also include Emerald Street and Mr Hyde. 

Prior to Hearst Dolphin worked at Bauer Consumer Media, where she was publisher of Grazia, and previously was head of magazines at the Mail on Sunday and the group head at the combined Mail Newspapers group.

As chairman, Soutar will replace Ellis Watson, who willl continue to remain on Shortlist Media's board.
