Silentnight restyles hippo and duck for new children's offer

Silentnight, the UK's largest bed maker, synonymous with the slumbering hippo and duck, is bringing the familiar icons back to TV in advertising to launch its new range of beds for children.

Mortimer Whittaker O'Sullivan produced the 30-second spot breaking nationally this week in which the characters become part of an extended family.

Feather Brooksbank is buying media for the campaign, which supports the introduction of Silentnight's My First Bed range. The products offer a wide array of different colours, headboards and storage options to enable children to choose their perfect bed.

Jane Horrocks and Clive Rowe provide the voiceovers for the spot in which the hippos break family norms. The mother threatens the children with a late night if they don't eat their food properly, and the father promises they can go to bed early if they behave.

The film was written by Matt Fee, art directed by Tim Snape and directed by Darren Vandenburg through Bermuda Shorts.

The hippo and duck were introduced by Manchester's BDH/TBWA in the late-80s.
