Simons hires Quilter for Ogilvy board role

Paul Simons, the chairman of the UK Ogilvy Group, has appointed

Jeff Quilter as the agency’s operations director.

The appointment is the first stage of a move by Simons, who was

appointed last month (Campaign, 16 April), to set up a UK Ogilvy Group

board. The final line-up of the board is expected to be announced next

week.

Representatives from each of the group’s companies, including OgilvyOne,

O&M, Ogilvy PR and Primary Contact, will join the board, which will meet

regularly to discuss inter-company business. The first such topic is

OgilvyOne’s move to Canary Wharf next summer.

Simons said: ’I anticipate considerable long-term benefits from the

collective opportunities that will come from a genuinely integrated

group. To speed up this process, I’m creating the group board. This is a

natural and obvious move given the breadth and depth of our collective

interests.’

Quilter, who was included in Campaign’s 30th anniversary issue’s Fantasy

Agency, takes up his new position on Monday. He said: ’Paul is the best

guy I’ve ever worked with. O&M is a real challenge, it’s one of the top

agencies.’

Quilter quit TBWA GGT Simons Palmer, where he was head of office

services, last October, following the merger of TBWA Simons Palmer with

GGT. ’It wasn’t the same company,’ he said.
