Sky plots customer magazine portfolio

LONDON - Sky Digital is reviewing its customer magazine strategy and is set to launch a number of new titles.

The broadcaster is close to launching at least one niche content title, which is expected to focus on films. The title will sit alongside its existing title, Sky the magazine, which has the largest circulation of any UK consumer magazine.

Sky the magazine has been published for the past four years by John Brown Citrus Publishing. However, it is not clear whether the new film magazine will be produced by John Brown, as Sky is believed also to have approached rival customer publishers.

John Brown has been asked to come up with alternative strategies for Sky and is still thought to be working with the broadcaster on ideas to develop Sky the magazine.

The title had an ABC figure of 6,874,090 for the six-month period from July to December 2005 and is expected to remain top in the ABC figures for the January-to-June 2006 period, which are released this week.
