Starcom wins Blacks Leisure media after three-way battle

LONDON - Starcom UK has won the media planning and buying account for the outdoor leisure specialists Outdoor Clothing Group Blacks Leisure, which includes the Millets chain.

The account, which has lain dormant for some time, is worth up to £2m. PHD Compass most recently held the brief, which was won by Starcom following a competitive pitch against three other agencies. The process was managed by Blacks marketing director David Robey.

The appointment of Starcom follows Robey's recent decision to move the creative account from the Newcastle-based agency Robson Brown to Miles Calcraft Briginshaw Duffy.

Based in Northampton, Blacks trades from more than 440 outlets and includes the Millets chain of camping shops and the Free Spirit chain, which sells surf, ski and snowboard paraphernalia. Outdoor Clothing Group Blacks Leisure also holds the retail and wholesale licence for the US surfing brand O'Neill.

Luca Margarito, a business director at Starcom, said: "There is enormous potential within this sector as the trend of consumers wanting to experience outdoor pursuits is undergoing considerable growth."
