Statoil hires McCann for UK marketing task

Statoil, the Norwegian energy group, has picked McCann London as its UK ad agency after a competitive pitch.

McCann won the business after a pitch that Statoil ran without using an intermediary.

UM London, which is part of the McCann Group, has handled Statoil’s media planning and buying in the UK since 2011.

Zaid Al-Zaidy, McCann London’s chief executive said: "Statoil has an amazing corporate and social agenda and we are proud that we have been appointed to help them achieve it throughout the UK."

In 2012, UM London won best financial, corporate and utilities campaign at Campaign’s Media Awards for its Statoil work: an online tool created with National Geographic Maps, The Economist Group and New Scientist that mapped and allowed for discussions on energy issues.
