A survey of UK internet users suggests the personal computer's status as people's favourite way to access the internet will be eaten into by mobile devices and tablets.

The survey asked 2,000 people what their current favourite internet access point was now, and what they thought it would be in a year's time.

Personal PC/laptop was picked by 89% of respondents as their current favourite, and by 64% as their favourite in a year's time.

Work PC/laptop was picked by 6% of people as their current favourite and by 6% as their favourite in a year.

The equivalent data for mobile phones was 4% current and 13% in a year, while tablet devices such as the iPad scored 1% current and 11% in a year.

Ebooks, another mobile format, scored 0% as current favourite, but 2% as favourite in a year.

However, the data was not all in favour of mobile formats, with television set to rise from 0% now to 4% in year.

The research was part of the GlobalWebIndex survey produced by TrendStream and used by companies including Razorfish, Nokia and Ogilvy.
