Talkcast, the online finance-to-entertainment venture set up by the

former News International marketers Ellis Watson and Toby Constantine,

has appointed Michaelides & Bednash to handle its brand strategy.

The company is already working with Carat, which handles strategic

planning, implementational planning and buying.

Up to now the company has launched ten niche sites with the help of

Carat, but it is understood that there are several large projects under

way for which M&B will be directly responsible.

A creative agency is expected to be appointed in coming weeks.

Since its launch in October, Talkcast has launched a number of sites

that tap into people’s lifestyles and interests.

The launches have been low profile and aimed at small, specialist

audiences.

They include services for the ex-pat community in the UK with sites such

as www.ozoverhere.com for Australians, as well as sites for New

Zealanders and one for South Africans. People register on the sites and

are then sent information weekly via e-mail.

There are also services targeting a youth audience such as a site for

London clubbers called ’clubalicious’ and a pop service on boybands

entitled ’popboys’.

It is understood that more mainstream launches are planned in the fields

of sport, business and entertainment.

The Talkcast team is made up of media, telecoms and internet

heavyweights such as Roy Bliss, the former managing director of Demon

Internet, Frank Herman, the ex-managing director of Sega Europe, and

former Sunday Times journalists, including the business writer Matthew

Lynn.

Commenting on the appointment, Barni Evans, the marketing director of

Talkcast, said: ’We have some wonderful products and we want wonderful

marketing. M&B know how to create powerful ideas that work.’

1 Why creative people have lost their way

What better way to kick off the inaugural issue of Campaign's monthly print offering than with another think piece on the current failings of our industry, written by an embittered, pretentious creative who misses "the way things used to be"...
