TalkSPORT owner calls for Radio Five Live privatisation

The Wireless Group (TWG), the owner of talkSPORT, has called for the privatisation of rival station BBC Radio Five Live.

The Wireless Group (TWG), the owner of talkSPORT, has called for the privatisation of rival station BBC Radio Five Live.

In response to the Communications White Paper, TWG is also calling for an end to ownership restrictions to allow independent radio companies to own more than one national analogue radio station.

TWG argues that it is unfair that the BBC uses its other radio stations and TV channels to promote Radio Five Live. TWG also said: "The BBC is using taxpayers money to inflate the cost of sports rights beyond the level that the free market can support."

Separately, TWG's talkSPORT station has announced a sponsorship deal with Lucozade Sport. The energy drink is backing the station's London Marathon coverage.
