Telegraph names Kim Fletcher as online editorial boss

Hollinger Telegraph New Media has appointed former Independent on Sunday editor Kim Fletcher as editorial director.

His arrival at the new-media arm of the Telegraph Group coincides with the departure of Danny Meadows-Klue, general manager of the Electronic Telegraph.

HTNM is planning a multi-million pound redevelopment of the Electronic Telegraph web site (www.telegraph.co.uk), which will include the introduction of various e-commerce-focused channels.

The new channels will draw on the traditional strengths of the Telegraph brand and will include travel, motoring, property and jobs.

Fletcher becomes the most senior national newspaper journalist to move into new media and will oversee of all of HTNM's editorial activities.

This will include the web sites that the group directly owns, including the Electronic Telegraph, the UK-focused search engine, UKMax.com, and sites that HTNM has a stake in, such as women's portal, handbag.com - which is a joint venture with Boots.

According to Hugo Drayton, managing director of HTNM: "From my point of view we needed a senior editorial person, someone who has edited a national newspaper, for the Telegraph to be able to take all of its values into the online world."
