The £10 billion cable merger between Telewest and Flextech is expected to go ahead this week, but it is yet to be decided who will lead the new company.
Adam Singer, chief executive of Flexteh, and Tony Illsley, who heads up Telewest, are both vying for the top job.
As news of the merger emerged early last week Singer was being tipped as the man who would head the combined company. Both of men are expected to remain with the combined entity.
The merger will bring together Telewest, the UK's second-largest cable company, with Flextech, which operates the cable channels, Bravo and Living as well as joint ventures with the BBC, including UK Gold.
