Flextech’s commercial director, Tony Wheble, is leaving the
satellite and cable broadcaster to head the travel broadcasting company,
TV Travel Shop, which is part-owned by Flextech.
His decision to leave Flextech coincides with the company’s merger with
Telewest, which will go through during the next couple of months. Wheble
will not leave Flextech until the merger is complete, and a spokesman
for Flextech said that because of the merger, Flextech ’would not be too
precipitous in replacing him’.
In January, Wheble was promoted to commercial director to oversee new
ventures. Before joining Flextech four years ago he was the broadcast
director at Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO.
At TV Travel Shop, Wheble will report to the chief executive and
co-founder, Harry Goodman, and the chairman, Stephen Whelton.
Wheble said: ’Taking the business into Europe, moving it on to the web
to become a dotcom and moving into interactive TV provides a combination
of all the disciplines that I’m very interested in.’
He added that he was keen to move the TV service on to as many different
communications platforms as possible, including wireless application
protocol services. ’We will look at any platform that will take our
service and pump information down it.’
The TV Travel Shop is owned by Flextech, the travel group Kuoni, and
Barclays Private Equity, the latter of which is the majority
The service is broadcast on cable and satellite and is a TV travel
agent, offering programmes telling viewers about holiday destinations.
